Malawi is a small country wedged in between Mozambique, Zambia and Tanzania, in southeastern Africa. When David Livingston, the famous explorer, visited in the 1800's, there were few hotels in Malawi. Many visitors on leisure or business find themselves in looking for hotels in Malawi in the nation’s capital, Lilongwe. If you are English speaking, it is getting easier to find your way around the country, as more and more are learning and speaking English.

That will take some searching, but you can find an excellent gem like the Cresta Crossroads Hotel in the capital. Not to be overlooked in Lilongwe is the Kiboko Town Hotel, which opened for business in 2005, and is located in the Old Town.
In travelling to other parts of Malawi, you can seek out the Sunbird Hotels, which probably has the largest inventory of all hotels in Malawi. Locations are in the major cities of Blantyre, Salima, Zomba and, of course, Lilongwe. Many people find that they are beginning their African trips in Malawi.
Some stay only a day or two, usually in one of the popular discount hotels in Malawi, before heading out to other parts of the continent. There are trains that go to various points, but are not recommended for the tourist.
Flying into the country can be done on Air Malawi or Kenya Airways and several other carriers, each of which can refer you to any type of hotel, and especially a discount hotel in Malawi, if you are amongst the budget minded. |
