The geographic importance of Alaska is it is one of the two states in U.S, which is not bordered by any other state. It is surrounded by Gulf of Alaska, Pacific Ocean, Bering Sea, Bering Strait, Chukchi Sea, Beanfort Sea and Arctic Ocean. The flag of Alaska was designed by a 13 year old, John Bell Benson. Two colors are used in the flag of Alaska, dark blue and yellow. The flag of Alaska can be described as a dark blue background with a large gold star, which represents the pole star, Polaris and seven five cornered gold stars in the shape of “the big dipper”. The colors used in the flag can be interpreted as, blue represents the evening sky, the blue of the sea, lakes and wild flowers that grow in Alaska and yellow represents the mineral wealth hidden in the streams and hills of Alaska. The flag of Alaska is selected for its symbolism and originality. The importance of Polaris is its an ever constant star for the mariner, explorer and hunter. |
