Flags of Angola

It is located in South America; bordering the South Atlantic Ocean between Namibia and democratic republic of Cairo .It has gained it s independence from Portugal in 1975. Angola’s flag was officially adopted on November 11,1975. The flag is divided horizontally in to two halves. There are three colors used in the flag. They are red, black and yellow. The symbols of a golden star, one half of a cogwheel and a machete are used which are in yellow color. The symbol is taken from the hammer and sickle. It is used to represent the industrial and agricultural workers. The colors in the flag can be interpreted as yellow represents the mineral wealth of Angola, Where as red and black represents freedom and death. The flag emblem also has a written inscription in Latin, which when translated to English means ‘Unity Provides Strength’.

The colors can also be interpreted as a red stand for the blood shed by Angolians during the liberation struggle from Portugese and black represents the African continent. The star in the middle represents progress and international solidarity. Angola consisted of hunter tribes, however, these tribes were later replaced by Bantu tribes.
