Flags of Austria

Austria officially known as Republic of Austria is a European country. Its neighboring countries are Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. The flag of Austria has two colors, red and white. The flag is divided horizontally in to three equal rectangles. The white rectangle is sand witched between two red rectangles. The flag was originally adopted in 1918, it was banned during world war-2 and was again adopted in 1945.The stripes of red and white represented the emblem of Austria for over eight centuries. According to the legend it is the white and red stripes represents the blood stained white coat worn by duke in a French battle.

Austria was known as Osterrichi according to the Celctic tribes that occupied it once in the year 995, therefore, Austria was involved in several wars since the time of its formation, firstly it was with the French, Holy Roman Empire, it was also one of the important countries during the Nazi war because of Hitler’s wish to get over it. Austria also had to get over a civil war that brought it to the status of neutral state of Austria, it also happens to be the member of the United Nations since the year 1955.
