Flags of Belarus

The flag of Belarus is composed of only three colors namely: white, green and red. The flag has three sections: two horizontals and one vertical portion. The red stripe which accumulates larger portion is placed on top of the green stripe. There is a white stripe located at on the left side, next to it is a border in red color with a diamond ornaments design which is traditionally a pattern used in Belarusia. The red stripe which comprises the larger portion of the flag signifies blood of the brave defenders and past of Belarus. The green stripe represents the future. The color green is associated with hope, revival, spring as well as the lands, fields and forests of Belarus. The decorative pattern of red with diamond ornaments on it symbolizes the country's cultural heritage, unity, and spiritual continuity.

It was in 1991 that Belarusa was recognized to be independent from Soviet Union. The flag used at present was quite similar to Belarusian flag being used when the country formed part of Soviet Union.There was a move to change the flag of Belarusa but the public refused it. It was from the years 1991 to 1995 that the flag of Belarusa was in colors: white and red with a white stripe placed horizontally on the flag.
