Flags of Benin

Benin flag has a simple of design which is a combination of three colors green, yellow and red. The flag is divided into three sections: one vertical and two horizontals. The left side has a vertical stripe which is colored green. The right side two colors are used, the yellow stripe is above the red stripe of which are of the same size and length. The colors that are used in the flag of Benin are traditionally of Pan-African. The colors that comprises the flag of Benin are well described and explained right in the lyrics of Benin's national anthem. The color green means revival and hope; red represents the courage of the ancestors of Benin; and lastly, the color yellow symbolizes wealth.

Benin is not the original name of the country, in 1960 the country gained independence and it was named as Republic of Dahomey. It was then in the year of 1975 that the country changed its name to Benin. On November 16, 1959, Benin flag was adopted. It was in the year of 1975 that the flag of Benin was abandoned. During August 1, 1990, when the Marxist regime was removed from office, Benin flag was reintroduced to the people.
