Flags of
Bhutan
Bhutan is the state in Southeast Asia, on the slopes of south Himalayas. In the north and northwest it abuts with China, on the south, east and southwest - with India. Bhutan does not have an outlet to the sea.On the national flag of Bhutan a white dragon is represented on a yellow and orange background.
The flag is separate diagonally from the below, forming two triangles. The upper triangle is yellow, the lower - orange. A dragon is located on the centre. This flag, with small changes, was used from the XIX century.
The dragon represented on the flag symbolizes the local Tibet name of Bhutan, which means “The Earth of the Dragon”. It holds in its claws jewels, symbolizing riches. The yellow field symbolizes a society monarchy, and orange – a Buddhist religion.
The modern design of the flag of Bhutan was improved in 1960, when a yellow-claret colour was changed on a red-orange and the outlines of dragon were changed also. A dragon symbolizes the country, its colour means cleanness and tolerance, and the threatening appearance expresses inflexible force of the deities, guarding Bhutan. The jewels, clutched in its claws, present a health and perfection. The yellow means the fruitful acts of king on the field of religion and government activity, and orange – a religious activity. |
