Flags of Botswana

The flag of Botswana is composed of three colors: blue, black and white. The design is plain in horizontal form. The base color is light blue. The center has a black stripe which has a thin white stripe located in each side. The colors that are found on the flag of Botswana are just of the same colors with regard to the national coat arms. The color base which is light blue symbolizes water. Botswana national arms have this motto which is PULA, which has the meaning "let there be rain". The stripes right in the center of the flag with the colors black and white signify racial harmony of the people in the country and society’s nature as a pluralist. The stripes in black and white were influenced by the national animal of the country which is zebra.

Before Botswana became independent it was a British protectorate of Bechualand. After gaining independence from Great Britain, the flag was officially adopted on September 30, 1966. In the current setting in Botswana, a law was being enacted and currently enforced that requires to ask permission right from the government before one can fly and raise the flag of Botswana.
