The national flag of the National Republic of Bulgaria consists of white, green and red horizontal strips with a coat of arms in the left top part. The white colour is a symbol of the peace and freedom. The green strip personifies natural riches of the country. A red strip is a symbol of courage and the blood of patriots spilled in the struggle for independence of the country. The flag in its modern appearance exists since 1947.
The coat of arms of Republic Bulgaria is a state symbol, which reflects independence and the sovereignty of Bulgarian people and the state. It is represented in the form of the gold crowned lion on a dark red background on a shield. Above the shield there is a great crown, symbol of the crowns of the Bulgarian kings during the Second Bulgarian Empire, with five crosses and one more on the crown. The shield is held by two gold crowned upright lions, which are turned to the shield from the left and right. |
