Flags of Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso flag comprises with the colors of: red, green and yellow. The design is quite simple; there are two horizontal stripes of both equal size and a star on the center. The top of the horizontal half is a red stripe and it has the top portion of the yellow star. The bottom of the horizontal half is green and the other half of the star. The colors that are found on the Burkina Faso flag are the colors used by Pan-African. This is a reflection of the break of the country with relation to its colonial past and unity in association with some African ex-colonies. The upper red stripe signifies revolution and the green symbolizes Burkina Faso's abundance when it comes to natural resources. The color yellow in the star represents the light that guides its people's revolution.

On August 4, 1984, the flag of Burkina Faso was officially adopted. It was on August 1984, that a coup happened and there was a change of the name of the country from Upper Volta and to its current name Burkina Faso. Burkina Faso means "the land of honorable men". It was from that moment that a flag of Burkina Faso was then adopted.
