Flags of
Chad
The flag of Chad has only three colors that form the vertical lines that span the body of the flag, the colors are blue, yellow and red, in the same order. Like other African countries that were ruled by the French, Chad flag too has the colors of France flag in it.
Red is common in both African and French community, therefore, blue and red are French flag colors and red and yellow are the African colors. Curiously flag of Romania and Chad are similar to each other without any relation what so ever.
Blue represents the sky, hope and agricultural strength of the southern part of the country. Yellow is representative of the country's northern desert and the sun. Red represents prosperity, unity and the blood shed for independence.
Initially there was use of color green in the flag of Chad, however for avoiding confusion with other African countries it was decided to eliminate the color green and use color blue in the flag. This flag was officially used from the year 1959. Though use of flag started since year 1959, actual independence was gained from the year 1960. |
