Flags of Chile

The flag of Chile comprises of three colors namely: blue, red, and white. The design is two equal horizontal stripes. The upper portion is consists of a blue square with a white star on it. On the right side of the upper portion it consists of a white stripe. The lower portion is consists of a red stripe that of the length of the upper portion. The color blue represents the sky. The white star is for the snow that covered Andes Mountains. The color red is for the bloods that were shed by the patriots who fought hard to gained independence from Spain. The star on the flag symbolizes that Chile is of Unitarian government.

The Chilean flag had two predecessor designs before it come to being with the current design. The first flag was composed of three stripes in horizontal form which had the colors: blue, white and yellow and was raised on July 4, 1812. The second flag had the same design with the first flag but the yellow stripe was changed to red and it was adopted in May 24, 1817. The current flag of Chile was adopted on October 18, 1817. The current Chilean flag was designed by Antonio Arcos.
