The flag of Colombia is composed of the colors: yellow, blue and red. The upper stripe is yellow which has the larger portion. The center stripe is blue with same size with the red stripe which is located at the bottom.
There was no official and well-explained meaning as to the colors of the flag of Colombia. As of the present, there are two theories that exist to give meaning to the colors of the flag. The first theory states that the color yellow represents justice and sovereignty; red symbolizes honor, valor, generosity and victory which relates to the bloodshed of the brave patriots; and the color blue, signifies loyalty, vigilance and nobility. The second theory, the color yellow signifies universal liberty; red stands for fraternity and blue for equality between social classes and equality right before the law and God. |
