Gambia
Gambia is accepted in 1965. The flag of the country represents a canvas with three strips placed horizontally. The top strip is in red colour, the average is blue and the below strip is green. The red colour is accepted in 1965 and means the sun in the sky; blue colour symbolizes the river Gambia, and green - the ground of the country.
Gambia is a state in the Western Africa at the coast of Atlantic Ocean. It’s capital is Banjul. Administratively the territory of the country is divided on 6 districts. About 85 % of the population are Moslems, 4 %-Christians; and the others adhere to the traditional local beliefs. The main national holiday is on 18 February – the Day of declaration of independence (in 1965).
Gambia is a republic of presidential type. The constitution is since1996. The head of the state is the president who was repeatedly selected in October 2001. He is also the commander-in-chief of the armed force. He is elected by the universal suffrage for the period of 5 years. The Legislature is a National assembly (with 49 deputies), selected for the period of 5 years also. The government headed by vice-president carries out the executive authority. |
