Flags of Guinea Bissau

The National flag of Guinea-Bissau is accepted in 1973, when the independence of the country from Portugal is proclaimed. The flag consist pan-African colours – gold, red and green, as well as the Black star of Africa. This national flag is influenced from the national flag of Ghana. The colors also have a similar mining: the red is a symbol of the blood of the martyrs, the green color is a symbol of the nature and the forests and the golden color correspond with the mineral resources of Guinea-Bissau. Guinea-Bissau is a small state on the coast of Western Africa, occupying the near-by islands of Bijagos also, and it is washed by the Atlantic Ocean. The greater part of the country is a plain with rare hills. The highest point is 262 meters above the sea level. There are several large rivers but large lakes are not present.

The name “Guinea”, possibly, became from the a Berber word “aguinaoui”, meaning “black”, and “Bissau” is the name of the capital of the state. Guinea-Bissau’s motto is “Unity, Fight, Progress”.
