It was in the year 1959 that the flag of Hawaii was officially adopted for the purpose of state use, which was done right after Hawaii became one of the fifty states of United States. Hawaii was the 50th state. On August 21, 1959 Hawaii gained statehood from US. The basis for the design of the flag of Hawaii was the first flag being adopted in 1816 by the Kingdom of Hawaii. The design of the current flag being used now can be traced back on April 8, 1896.
