The Indian flag is consists of four colors namely: yellow, white, blue and green. There are three stripes of equal length and size. Yellow stripe is located on top, white stripe at the center and green stripe at the bottom of the flag. There is an emblem of Ashoka Chakra which is located at the center of the white flag. The emblem is a 24-spoked wheel.
It was in the year 1931, that the Indian flag was initially introduced the colors symbolizes two of the ethnic groups: the orange stripe symbolizes the Hindus and for the green stripe symbolizes the Muslims. The color white symbolizes peace which was desired between these two ethnic groups and truth. There is a new and updated meaning of the colors of the Indian flag as to the orange it represents sacrifice and courage; green symbolizes chivalry, fertility and faith; and white symbolizes truth and purity. The 24-spoked wheel symbolizes the Wheel of Law. Alternatively the wheel on Indian flag also means working at all hours of the day. |
