As they say in the constitution of Iran, the number 22 has been chosen, because the Islamic revolution (known as a revolution of 1979) threw aside the previous mode of 22 numbers of 11 months on an Islamic calendar. The Iranian calendar is based on signs of the zodiac. Year begins from the 21st March and the eleventh month is on the sign of Aquarius. The flag is accepted 29 July 1980.
The coat of arms consists of 4 half moons and a sabre. Four half moons symbolize the word Allah (actually, there is some similarity with the Arabian writing of this word). Five parts of the coat of arms symbolize five principles of the Islam. Above the sabre there is a "Tashdid" (similar to letter W). In the Arabian writing it is used in double letters, here it designates the double force of the sabre (sword). The form of the coat of arms reminds a tulip, in memory of those young men which were died, protecting Iran. |
