It was on June 19, 1946, the flag of Italy was officially adopted. The Italian flag in tricolor was used for the first time in 1976, it represented that the French had controlled the region in Lombardy. In 1797, Napoleon Bonaparte used this flag in his Cisalpine Republic. It was on 1848, that the King of Sardinia incorporated the coat of arms, for every area in the country which was under his control. In 1861, the Kingdom of Italy adopted the flag having the royal coat of arms this was used to signify Italy as a united country. The design of the arms was removed from the flag in 1946, right at the moment the monarch was abolished. |
