Flags of Kenya

Kenyan flag is consists of black, white, red, and green. There are three stripes on the flag. Black stripe on top, at the center is a red stripe which has a thin white stripe on both sides that serve as borders, and green stripe at the bottom. An emblem is located at the center of the flag. The emblem is composed of spears and shield of a Masai warrior. The black color signifies African people. The red color represents the struggle of Kenya's people for independence. Green symbolizes the country's natural resources and agriculture. The two thin white stripes signify unity and peace. The emblem which is placed at the center represents the fight and defense of Kenya for freedom.

It was on December 12, 1963 that the flag of Kenya was formally adopted. This was done right after Kenya became independent from Great Britain. Kenyan flag was based on the flag of KANU, the party that moved for the campaign for country's independence. The country's former name was Dominion of Kenya and on 1964 it was changed to Republic of Kenya.
