Kuwait
The flag of Kuwait is composed of four colors namely: green, white, red and black. There three stripes in horizontal form: green stripe on top, white strip in the middle and red stripe at the bottom. A black trapezoid is located at the left side of the flag.
The colors green, white, red and black are associated with the pan-Arab colors and these colors are being linked to the Arabs as well as the Islamic faith for over centuries. The colors that are being used on the flag of Kuwait symbolize unity within the Arab community and independence.
These colors are also present in the flags of different countries located within the region. The green stripe means fertility of the Arab nations. Black symbolizes the enemies' defeat. The red stripe represents for the blood shed by the enemy and while the white stripe signifies purity and honor.
On September 7, 1961, the flag of Kuwait was adopted. This was few months, right after Kuwait gained independence from Great Britain on June 19, 1961. On November 24, 1961, the flag of Kuwait was hoisted. The flag was replaced when Iraq invaded Kuwait and right after Kuwait gained liberty the original flag was used. |
