Flags of
Lebanon
The flag of Lebanon consists from bars of red and white colours. In the centre of the flag on the white bar, a representing of the cedar of green colour is placed.Accepted in 1943, a red colour symbolizes the blood; spilled in the fight for independence, white is cleanness and peace.
The cedar is a traditional symbol of Lebanon, related also to the Christianity. The cedar is also a symbol of immortality. In XVIII century the cedar becomes a symbol of Christian sect of Maronits, spreading their influence primary in Syria and Lebanon.
Later, when Lebanon became a part of the French domains, the French tricolor was used with the representing of a cedar in the center of the flag. The red and white color correlated accordingly with the clans of kauzits and yemenits. These clans were most influential in Lebanon from VII till XVIII centuries.
Later the white color of the flag began to mean the cleanness of the snow of the Lebanese mountains (wider – a cleanness of the thoughts of country’s people), and red – the blood, spilled in the fight against Ottoman, French and other colonialists. Lebanon (Arab. Lubnan) is the official name of the Lebanese Republic in Asia. |
