Flags of Libya

The flag of Libya, accepted in 1977, is a simply green rectangle. The green is the traditional color of Islam, the state religion of Libya. The green symbolizes the “Green revolution” of Muammar Kaddafi also. The flag of Libya is the unique in the world one-colored state flag without some figures or images. On 24 December 1951 the king Idris I proclaimed the independent of the United Kingdom of Libya. A new era in the history of Libya began on 1 September 1969, when the group of young officers at the head with Muammar Kaddafi accomplished revolution and proclaimed the country Lybian Arabic Republic.

Libya is a state in North Africa, which from the north is washed by Mediterranean Sea. Berber Greeks named lybians the ancient habitants of these earths, from what the desert, lying to the west of the River Nile, also began to be named Lybian. Later the state, occupying the western part of this desert, got the proper name. Archaeological information shows that 8000 years to our era there were cultures of neolith on the territory of Libya. In historical time Libya is associated with the territory under the control of other states and civilizations — they are Finikiya, Kartagen, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Vandals and Byzantium.
