Flags of Massachusetts

The flag of Massachusetts is a canvas of white color. In the centre of the flag is a heraldic shield of dark blue color with the representing of Indian, holding a bow in his right arm, and an arrow in his left hand, which is directed downward. The image of the American Indian is of yellow color. A white five-ended star is located in the left top corner of the shield. Under the shield – on the blue strip the motto of the state is represented in yellow letters: “By the Sword We Seek Peace, but Peace Only Under Liberty” Above the shield a symbol of the state is placed, which is a hand with a sword.

The colors of the Massachusetts flag are white, dark blue, yellow, which symbolize a hope, peace and prosperity. American Indian is a symbol of the native population of the state. The arrow of the American Indian, turned downward is also an aspiring symbol of peace, but simultaneously it is a sign of the willingness to protect the freedom. The white star is a reminder that Massachusetts was a member of the first thirteen states, forming Anti-English coalition in the period of the war for independence. The emblem of the state reflects the first part of the motto of the state.
