Mauritania
Like any other African country Mauritania also uses color green, which is the Pan African color in its flag, the Mauritania flag is made of color green base, the flag has a crescent shaped moon right in the middle in the color golden, above the moon also in color golden is the star, with five points.
Mauritania is an Islamic country, as almost all Islamic countries do, the Mauritania flag too consists of color green which is symbol of Islam, the golden color in the flag makes a unique representation of the Sahara desert. However, another Islamic sign has been utilized in the flag and that is the crescent moon and the star.
Mauritania gained freedom from France in the year 1960, however, the flag was designed and used prior to the freedom for country, the country also tried coming together with today’s Western Sahara.
However, because of freedom struggles of the Western Sahara, Mauritania let go off the region. The Mauritania flag was designed by none other than its first president Mukthar Ould Dada, however, some dismiss it as a rumor. Mauritania did not have constitution till the year 1991. |
