Flags of Mississippi

The flag of Mississippi is accepted in 1894. The flag contains three colours – dark blue, white and red. There are blue and white strips, which are shorter and one red strip longer. On the left upper end next to the blue and white strips, there is a red square with depicted blue cross in the form of the letter X with 13 white stars in it. These 13 stars are symbols of the 13 origin states of the Union. “The flag of 1894 is our property. It is our honour, our debt and our history. It is a symbol of our state. Our families enjoyed it. Fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers of all the habitants of Mississippi, militated under this flag.” – these are words of Erl Faggert talks, press secretary of the organization "The Sons of the Veterans of Confederation" in Mississippi.

Recently there was a voting in the state for changing the state flag, but the supporters of the present flag began to celebrate after they knew the results of the voting. Those, who want to change the flag of the state, talk meantime, that they will farther defend the position. Under constraint from the side of organizations on defence of the civil laws, in last years a few southern states cleaned the cross of the Confederation from their symbolism, while Mississippi became the first state in which a question about the emblem of Civil war was put on a referendum.
