Flags of Norway

Norway flag has the colors red, blue and white, there is a presence of ‘Scandinavian cross on the flag and outline to this flag is provided by the white stripes. Though initially the vertical line of the cross appears centered a close examination will reveal that it is on the left side of the flag. Flag of Norway is inspired by three countries, namely France, England and United States. So those colors symbolize the colors of liberty and independence. The cross is common to most Scandinavian flags, and represents Norway's link to the other Scandinavian countries. We can assume the red and white came from the Danish flag and the blue from the Swedish flag.

The Norwegian flag was first adopted on July 17, 1821 and is based on the Danish flag. Since Norway was ruled by Denmark till 15th century, the Norwegian flag is very much inspired from the Danish flag, there was a blue cross placed inside the white Danish cross, however, it changed when Norway went independent and into union with Sweden, the current flag symbolizes independent Norway, without any union or dependence of any other State.
