Philippines
The flag of Philippines is divided into two horizontal stripes. The top stripe is in blue color and the bottom stripe is in red color. A triangle in white color is present with one of it’s sides as the hoist side and its vertex some where in the middle of the flag. At each vertex of the triangle a five-cornered star is imprinted which is in yellow color.
In the center of the flag of Philippines a sun with eight rays radiating out from it in yellow color is imprinted.The white triangle on the hoist side represents equality and the Katipunan nationalist organization. The blue color in the flag represents patriotism and justice. The red color in the flag represents blood shed by the people for freedom and independence, white color represents peace and purity.
The three stars at the three vertices of the triangle represent the three geographical regions of the country, which are Luzon, Mindanao and Visayas. The flag of Philippines was officially endorsed on September 16, 1997. The flag was originally used in 1898 when it gained independence from Spanish rule; in 1907 it was banned when United States of America seized it. Later Japan took control over it in 1942 and later on America took the control till Philippines gained its independence on July 4, 1946. |
