Flags of Portugal

The flag of Portugal consists of two vertical stripes. Color green is the left stripe of the flag whereas color red is the right stripe of the flag. The stripes are not equally proportioned, the green band is only two thirds of the flag and the red one is larger by the proportion of 3:5. Flag of Portugal also depicts the coat of arms in the center of the flag. Portuguese revolution which took place in the year 1910 is depicted through the color red, whereas the color green stands for hope, there are five shield in the main shield of the flag, and there are also five white dots, these depict one of the most important event in the Portuguese history, it stands for the event when the king Alphonso Henrique I defeated five Moorish kinds, hence depiction of 5 stars.

It is also believed that the king received divine assistance in this war, the stars and the shield also depict the religion of the state on flag of Portugal namely Christianity. There is also a navigational instrument depicting the colonization of Portugal by Prince Henry and the importance of Maritime history, navigational instrument also stands of memory of Prince Henry.
