Flags of
Qatar
Qatar flag consists of two colors, these are maroon and white, on the left hand side of the flag is the white portion with serrated edges, that are combined with the maroon and the larger portion of the flag. The colors in the Qatar flag have different symbolisms so does the serrated edge.
The white in the flag of Qatar stands for peace, the marron color portion stands for the Muslim Kharijite community, there is also another reason why maroon color is included it stands for several wars the country has been engaged in bloodshed of countrymen caused by these wars.
There are nine edges or points in the serrated line, the number 9 depicts that Qatar was the 9th country to joined the reconciled Emirates, that prevail in the Middle East, this was done after the British treaty with the country ended in the year 1916.
After the British left the country, Qatar changed its flag and the color maroon was selected over red, because there was a lot of similarity between flag of Qatar and that of the adjoining nations. The current flag as been officially adopted in 1971! |
