Flags of South Carolina

South Carolina flag derives all that it uses from the events in history as well as the military. Flag of South Carolina does not have neither emblem nor any letters or motor written on the flag. Instead the flag is in blue background and contains only a crescent in the upper left hand side corner and a palm tree in the middle of the flag. You will find the flag very attractive. Both the crescent and the palm tree are in color white.

The color blue and the crescent has been included in the flag, because blue was color of uniforms soldiers of this state wore for fighting battles, and crescent silver badges worn by them on their caps during the battle. Selection of palmetto tree is also important, because during the war with the British, soldiers defended themselves by making palace of the palmetto logs. Presence of palmetto on the South Carolina flag is one of the reasons why the state is nicknamed the ‘Palmetto State’. South Carolina became 8th state to become part of the USA, therefore, it is also a part of the original 13 states that decided to come together to form a country. South Carolina became a state in the year 1788 and the flag was officially accepted in the year 1861.
