The flag of Spain has two colors in it, red and yellow. The flag is divided into three horizontal stripes. The yellow stripe is sand witched between the two red stripes. The country’s coat of arms is used in the hoist side of the flag. A crown is placed on the shield in the symbol of the coat of arms. The shield is guarded by Pillars of Hercules on either side of the shield. The Pillars of Hercules are used to represent Gibraltar and Cuetta. The shield is divided into four quadrants; each quadrant displays badges of the original Spanish kingdoms. In the center of the shield is the emblem of the reigning Spanish royal Family, House of Bourbon. At the bottom of the shield is a pomegranate representing Grenada. The pillars are wrapped with a phrase “Plus Ultra” which means, “There is more beyond”. The current Spanish flag was endorsed on December 19, 1981
