Suriname flag is consists of the colors namely: green, white, red, and yellow. The flag's design is there are five horizontal stripes. There is a green stripe which is located on the top and as well as the bottom of the flag. In the middle of the flag is a red stripe with white stripe on top and bottom of it. There is a yellow star placed on the center of the red stripe.
The green stripe symbolizes hope, natural resources and fertility of the land. The white color represents justice and freedom. The red stripe symbolizes the struggle and progress of the country to have a better quality of living. The colors used in the flag originally symbolize the political parties of Suriname. Green was for National Party, white for People's Party and red for Hindu Vatan Hitkari. The yellow star symbolizes the golden future of the country that can be achieved through hard work and unity. The five points of the star represent the five ethnic groups of the country namely: Chinese, American Indians, Asian Indians, Creoles and Europeans. |
