Thailand is a county in Southeast Asia. “Thailand” verbally means “Land of the free” . The Thai flag has three colors viz red, white and blue. The red in the flag represents nation, white stands for religion and blue for monarchy. The flag has five horizontal strips starting with red on the top followed by white and a much wider blue strip, the blue covering one-thirds of the flag. The blue strip is in turn followed by a white strip with red at the bottom. The red and the white strips are equal in area. The Thai people believe that their country is united by Thai blood and body. They pride themselves as the loyal subjects of their majesty. The flag represents the three concepts the Thai hold dear- nation, religion and monarchy .The Thai flag is raised every morning at 8.00am and lowered at 6.00pm in all villages and towns across Thailand. It was never determined as to when was its flag first flown. However, the earliest mention of a risen Thai flag dates back to the reign of King Narai the great of Ayutthaya , who ruled from 1656-1688. |
