The state of Alaska is not bordered by any other state, however as seen from the map of Alaska, water bodies such as the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Alaska, Bering Sea and Bering Strait along with Beaufort Sea as well as the Artic Ocean surround the state. The map of Alaska reveals that the state is divided into 5 regions namely, Southeastern, South-central, Southwestern, Central as well as Artic Alaska.
Alaska in Aleut language means mainland. Native groups such as Inupiat, Yupik, Aleut etc initially populated Alaska. The area of Alaska gained significant exposure during the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-98 when numerous people surged in to the Alaska due to discovery of gold. Alaska became an organized state in 1912, and a part of USA in the year 1959.
As far as Alaska tourism is concerned, the state offers a variety of activities and adventures comprising of fishing, wildlife viewing, hiking, historical and cultural as well as numerous winter activities. Due to this reason many believe the Alaska travel experience to be ultimate one. It is believed that every year more than 1.4 million visitors, travel to Alaska. Due the rising popularity of Alaska as a tourist destination, the tourism industry in the state is booming. In fact, the Alaska tourism industry is the fastest growing industry and is the second largest private sector employer.
