The map of Arizona further reveals that the State consists of a high plateau area in the northeast, a mountainous area that runs from the southeast to northwest as well as the low mountain ranges along with the desert area that dominates the southwestern region of Arizona.
A Spanish explorer, Franciscan in the year 1539, explored Arizona. Initially Arizona was a part of the Mexican state Vieja California, but it was taken over by United States during its war with Mexico in the year 1848. However, it was only in the year 1912, that this state officially became a part of the United States.
Arizona travel is certainly worth it as it has several attractions. However, amongst them, the magnificent beauty of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon is certainly worth witnessing. If one looks at the map of Arizona it can be seen that Grand Canyon which is created by the Colorado River, is located in the Northern part of Arizona. This colorful steep sided gorge has been the source of attraction for many. Apart from this Arizona has several other attractions and in order to celebrate its history and culture, the department of Arizona tourism has become an official signatory of the National Geographic Geotourism Charter.
