The Europeans colonized Burundi before Burundi gained independence in 1962.
The inhabitants presently living there are known as Tutsi and Hutu. Though both tribes are constantly at war, reestablishment of democracy along with peace in 2005 has made it an accessible spot for Burundi tourism industry
