Chattisgarh maps show the area of the state as 135, 194 sq. km. Raipur serves at the capital. Forests cover about 44% of its area. While the north and the south parts are hilly. The central part of the state is part of the Mahanadi river basin and is extremely fertile.
Chattisgarh takes its name from the Chattish which means thirty six and Garh that means Fort. There were that many princely states that ruled the area before Independent India came into existence. It has been under the rule of the many kingdoms and empires chiefly especially under the Mughal Empire.
Travel destinations in Chattisgarh include beautiful ruins of forts that can be visited. There are also many temples and other religious monuments. The state has a rich tribal history and its tribal music is very popular. The traditional folk songs include Sohar, bihav and Pathoni songs.
The tourism industry of Chattisgarh is just catching up as it was part of Madhya Pradesh prior to 2001. It’s a mineral rich state and Raipur and Korba are places to visit. Korba is the hub of power generation and supplies electricity to the neighboring cities too.
