Iran covers an area of 16, 48,000 sq. km according to the maps of Iran.

It has a large coastline and on the other side has splendid snow capped mountains.

It shares its borders with Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan and other erstwhile Soviet nations such as Turkmenistan.

Iran has a very rich heritage and was earlier known as Persia. The major language is Persian, which is similar to Arabic but has its won verse. It was a long standing enemy of the Ottoman Empire and was ruled by successive dynasties.

Iranian map has changed over the past centuries. The last Shah of Persia, Reza Shah Pahlavi was overthrown in 1979. It also had an Eight year war with its neighbor Iraq in the 1980’s.

Iran has recently improved its links with the West and has become more relaxed. The best Caviar in the world comes from Iran, where it’s fished off the Caspian Seas. It also weaves the best carpets in the world and Persian carpets are known all over the world.

The tourism industry in Iran has just opened up.There are several travel destinations in Iran. Visitors to the country should go to the Golden Triangle, which are the cities of Hamadan, Kermanshahan and Khorrambabad.

There are beautiful mosques and bazaars many of which date back to more than 5 centuries. There are many ruins of old palaces and palace relief’s which were built by Daruis I in 5th century BC and subsequently destroyed by Alexander the Great.
