In 1876, it was a part of the Russian Empire and in 1936 it was the part of Soviet Union. However, with the collapse of USSR, Kyrgyzstan became independent in1991. The president of Kyrgyzstan is Kurmanbek Bakiyev and its prime minister is Almazbek Atambayev. The total population of Kyrgyzstan is 5,264,000 (according to 2006 census) and its density is 26 /km˛.
