| In 1849, the map of Minnesota was changed with introduction of nine large Minnesota counties as Minnesota State. Earlier, the map of Minnesota showed 57 individual counties, whereas after the re-organization of these counties as a single state, 87 counties exist on the map of Minnesota. In 1923, the last county was added to Minnesota State – The Lake of the Woods County. |
Some of these counties were inhabited by Native American people. Some of the counties in Minnesota are named after physical geographic features, whereas some others are named after prominent leaders and politicians. Due to the geographical location and the history of the State, Minnesota has become a central place for attracting tourists from all over the world.
The main attraction in Minnesota is its Voyageurs National Park that has some pleasant scenery and natural water resources in the rocky area. This area has several rocky islands surrounded by water from almost 30 lakes. This is great if you like fishing. You will also find 37500 hectares area, called as Kabetogama Peninsula, which is untouched by modern civilization or roads. In addition to its natural resources, the Voyageurs National Park area is visited by numerous species of birds, wolves, bears, beavers and stags.
