| Missouri is a large State – it comprises of 114 counties and one independent city as per the Map of Missouri. The name Missouri comes from the River Missouri, which means “those who have dugout canoes". On Map of Missouri, this State is on the north side of Iowa, and on the east side of Tennessee, Illinois, and Kentucky. As per the Map of Missouri, two main Rivers in Missouri are the Missouri River and the Mississippi River. |

This State originally belonged to France, and it was purchased from France as part of the famous Louisiana Deal in 1821. Before the civil war, its status was a slave State due to the presence of a large number of slaves in the region.
Missouri’s climate is sometimes hot-humid, and sometimes cold-dry. It often faces extremes in temperatures since it doesn’t have ocean or large mountains surrounding its area. Many tourists visit Missouri to experience these weather extremes. There are two airports in Missouri - The Kansas City International Airport and The Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. The State is famous for sports, and its Baseball team, Football team and Hockey team are favorites among sports fans in the US. The tourists visit Missouri for Historical monuments, a peaceful stay at the river-side and sports.
