As revealed from the county map of Ohio, this state has a total of 88 counties, of which the Ashtabula County with a total area of 703 sq miles is the largest. Tracing the history of Ohio, it is found that Robert Cavelier, Sieur de la Salle in the year 1669, first explored this region. Initially a French property, Ohio was taken over by the British after the war between France and England. However, it was acquired by USA after the Revolutionary War in 1783.
The state offers its visitors numerous attractions comprising of state parks, homes of the president, museums, galleries, zoos and much more. Ohio’s tourism industry is a major revenue producer. Report for the year 2004 revealed that this industry earned total revenue of 30.7 billion. The Ohio Travel Association plays an important role in the growth and success of Ohio’s travel and tourism industry. This association was set up way back in 1976 with the aim of enabling the state’s travel and tourism industry contribute in the state’s economic growth and development.
