Historically Rajasthan has seen small kingdoms due to internal rivalry amongst the Rajputs but inspite of that they resisted the great Mughal domination. However as the power of Rajputs waned Marathas took over only to be finally subdued by the British. Post independence Rajasthan was made a state in 1956.
Rajasthan covers an area of 342,239 Sq.Km with Jaipur as its capital. This state has a varied climate with both hot and humid climate coexisting with cooler regions. Topographically also the state has deserts, sand dunes, mountains, plateau as well as small portions of plain land with jungles. The cities have the cliffs as their backdrop.
Tourism industry in Rajasthan is very prominent. The travel destinations of Rajasthan being mainly beautiful, majestic palaces and temples. The famous palaces are the Hawa Mahal, Udaipur Palace, Jaipur Palace and the Lake Palaces. Since the Rajputs were of warrior class the landscape of Rajasthan is dotted with numerous forts like the Jaigarh Fort, Jaisalmer Fort, Nargarh Fort and the Amber Fort.
In the map of Rajasthan one also finds the Ranthambore, Sariska, Keoladeo national park and wildlife sanctuaries. There are also places of religious importance with Dargah Sharief for the Muslims and Govinddevji Temple for the Hindus being prominent ones. All these places can be easily found in a map of Rajasthan.
