Tripura is a part of India from 1949 onwards. The state is of only 10,486 sq km and the beautiful landscape is dotted with valleys, mountains and rivers. It is divided into three districts with Agartala as its capital. The three districts are the South Tripura, West Tripura and North Tripura.
The region is mainly a hilly region interspersed with river valleys. Tourism industry in Tripura is not a major contributor to its economy. The travel destinations of Tripura are few like the Ujjayant palace, built by the Hindu kings of Tripura; the temple for fourteen gods or the Chaturdasa Temple; the water palace called Neer mahal and the Government museum and botanical garden. For the religious minded the temple of Tripurasundari at Udaipur is a definite attraction. A map of Tripura will help in identifying these spots easily.
