Uruguay
Map of Uruguay shows it to be located in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a country of South America that borders South Atlantic Ocean from the southeast and lies between Brazil towards the north and Argentina towards its west. Before the European settlement, people called Charrúas were the ones who inhabited Uruguay. In 1778, Spain took over Uruguay from Portugal. In 1811, revolts were conducted by Uruguay against Spain.
But, in 1817, it was again conquered by Brazil. It then gained independence in 1825 with the help of Argentina.The Uruguay tourism industry is mainly dependant on tourists from Argentina. However, a small percentage of tourists are also witnessed from Paraguay, Chile and Brazil contributing to the earnings of Uruguay tourism. This tourism industry was introduced in 1986 by Sanguinetti government. Everything from the regulation of hotel prices to the promotion of tourist attractions of the place are all taken care of by this industry. There were also special programs that were conducted in low season to attract tourists. The improvement of marinas, camping facilities and hotels are also supported by the government.
