Edinburgh is also known to have a fantastic New Year’s even celebration.  The Scots can party like no one else.  Its museums during the day are rich with its troubled yet triumphant history and by night, the drinking, the pubbing, and the partying goes on.  There are also other cities to visit in Scotland, so you can visit them on the train quite easily.
